October Schoolwide Theme: RESPECT

So much positive work is going on to help kids succeed at "middle school life." Our team is so blessed to be a part of it all! Students are being respectful of our "no mobile device" policy and with each other. They are learning that HOW they treat each other reflects more about THEMSELVES -- relating to WHY it's so important to treat one another with dignity and respect. October is also goal-setting month for both students AND staff. While teachers are busy goal-setting with kids, our AdminTeam has been meeting with Classified and Certificated staff to set and plan for supporting their own professional goals. What is the #1 focus for everyone at CKMS? Positive GROWTH for all. Together - we can accomplish anything! Let's do this, Cub Families! It's gonna be a great semester of improving academic achievement!

TEAMwork in ACTION

BIG “Shout-Out” to our amazing PTA for their support and presence at Fall Conferences! After a long day of teaching and learning, this generous group of volunteers ensured our staff were fed dinner (salads, rolls & crockpot comfort foods) -- a wonderful way to recharge before connecting with families for the evening. One way you can help us show gratitude is to become a member of our CKMS PTA!  Also...encourage your student to explore and express creativity by submitting an entry into the annual PTA art contest (see flyer for details)! Speaking of Fall Conferences… Your “voice” is an important part of our team’s reflection and future-planning process. Our goal is to continue improving how we engage with families in true partnership towards ALL students experiencing success! Please take a moment to provide us with feedback on your experience.

Big Shout-out to our Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) Team and student leaders! Last Friday 10/17, staff and students attended a high-energy assembly to launch “Cub Coins” -- our positive behavior reward system (via tokens) where kids can earn prizes or other fabulous experiences valued by middle schoolers. For example, “go to lunch 2 minutes early” garnered a huge response (especially for those crowded, Nacho Tuesdays) or “eat lunch with a favorite staff member” or “earn a vintage CKMS sweatshirt” or “get catered lunch from Cooking class teacher, Ms. Cherry.” Our own Director of Secondary joined in on the fun by leading a grade-level competition! (see image)

COUNSELING Update

On Wednesday, October 29th, CKMS will be doing a Future Fair! Our students will participate in fun future-focused activities for the last hour and a half of the school day! Be sure to ask them about their favorite part!

LIBRARY Update

Please check your email for any library notices. Automated notices are emailed each week for overdue books, Chromebook/Chromebook charger fines, or reminders to renew Chromebooks and chargers. Please email Mrs. Trunkey, CKMS Librarian if you have any questions, sheilat@ckschools.org.

OFFICE Update

If you have not completed/signed and returned your student's Federal Impact Aid card (purple), please do so ASAP. With a large active military population and civil service population, it's important that our families are represented accurately. Thank you for your attention to this time-sensitive and annual task!

ASB / Anchored 4 Life / Student Leadership

With this month's theme of RESPECT, our student leaders came together to draft and hang inspirational posters and to create inspirational table-tents that have been set up for each lunch on a daily basis. We are SO proud of our Cub Crews! (see image)

It’s Socktober!! —a month-long celebration dedicated to random acts of kindness and community support through the gift of a new pair of socks! This initiative encourages individuals, schools, and organizations to collect and donate new socks to those in need. Spirit Week is our final week to collect new socks as grade-levels compete against each other.  Wouldn’t it be uh-MAYzing if our donation boxes were overflowing with socks that will be donated to a local, charitable organization?  Tell your friends and ALL your family -- help kids practice community leadership with generous hearts!  (see image below)
